Art washes away for the soul, the dust of everyday life.
- Pablo Picasso
What I Do
My work starts with blank canvases, so to speak, blank, white fabrics or fibres. These come to life when I add colours and texture, whether it be by dyeing, printing, or stencilling, or drawing tight stitches of Shibori to give exquisite dimensionality. To complete the picture, the addition of machine or hand stitching.
The inspiration to create movement in textiles, is in all things I see in everyday life, in nature, and often in man made structures. There is an inherent beauty in most things, if you know where to look. I know that I have succeeded in a piece of work when, the visitor to my studio stretches out their hands to touch and experience its tactility and drink in the wonder of the colours.
