RACHAEL - Graceful Dancer.
Rachael is my second piece of work. I wanted to create something closer to a human representation. I was not taking ideas from a drawing, Rachael just appeared under my hands as I worked.
She had an almost monastic quality to her. There was a quiet presence to the face, that at this stage was neither male or female. Whilst building this piece, there was an air of reflection, quietude and peacefulness in the studio.
The persona "Rachael" was quietly evolving!
This is one of my favourite photos of Rachael. I had been wondering what to do with her face, how to frame it. I tried a few things on her head, but when I wrapped this simple piece of my hand dyed silk in soft folds around her head, I knew Rachael had arrived.
Rachael had a peasant quality to her once I'd given her a dusky skin tone. Simple but pretty fabrics, plaited hair of hand dyed Silktops and a few beads to frame her face and she was almost done.
People had a fascination for the treatment I had given her legs, so to preserve her dignity, I made some harem pants, which finish just short of her bare feet. She stands at 60cm tall.
Now Rachael dances for me in the studio, to a lilting tune only she can hear.
Rachael is for sale. POA
